CNC turning

In CNC turning, the workpiece rotates while a cutting tool removes material. The result: rotationally symmetrical parts with tight tolerances. Typical applications include bolts, bushings, shafts, threaded parts and spacer sleeves.

Our production partners work with modern CNC lathes—equipped with live tooling. This enables drilling, tapping, and milling operations in a single setup, drastically reducing cycle times and eliminating re-clamping errors. It reduces setup time and increases accuracy.


CNC milling

Milling is the process for non-rotational parts: housings, flanges, adapter plates and brackets. With conventional and 5-axis milling machines, even complex geometries can be manufactured cost-effectively.

The advantage of 5-axis milling: the workpiece is machined from multiple sides in one setup. Minimizing setups ensures superior dimensional accuracy and significantly shorter lead times.


Grinding

Grinding is used when surfaces have to be particularly smooth or dimensions need be extremely accurate. Typical applications include: fitting surfaces, sealing surfaces, bearing seats. Whether cylindrical, surface or profile grinding—the method depends on the part geometry and the required surface finish.

Full flexibility in choosing the right material

Turning or forming? The right decision saves money

Not every part that can be turned should actually be turned. For every inquiry, our engineers apply Value Engineering to verify if CNC machining is the most cost-effective method—or if a near-net-shape forming process offers a better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for higher volumes.

Rule of thumb: for small quantities and complex geometries, machining is often the best option. For higher volumes and simpler shapes, forming may significantly reduce unit costs.

From drawing to series production

  1. Inquiry & consultation: You provide the drawing or 3D model. We check feasibility and recommend the ideal process. We have our own designers and technicians for this.
  2. Optimisation: If needed, our technicians suggest adjustments—regarding material, tolerances and manufacturing method.
  3. Sampling: Initial samples are produced, measured and aligned with you.
  4. Series production: After approval, production starts with the best-fit partner in our network.
  5. Quality assurance: Dimensions, surfaces and documentation are checked with every delivery.

When is machining the right choice?

  • You need rotational parts (turning) or complex free-form geometries (milling).
  • You require high dimensional accuracy with tight tolerances (typical: IT6–IT8 for turning, IT7–IT9 for milling).
  • You need small to medium quantities – or prototypes that must be available quickly.
  • Your parts require high surface quality or additional sanding.

Frequently asked questions

With CNC turning, IT6 to IT8 is standard; with CNC milling, IT7 to IT9. Tighter tolerances are possible depending on the material and geometry. Grinding can achieve accuracy in the micrometer range.

Machining can make sense from quantity 1—especially for prototypes and small batches, it represents the most economical option as it requires zero initial tooling investment. For higher quantities, we check whether a forming process would be more cost-effective.

Yes, we can. Threads (internal and external), drill holes, grooves and surface treatments (e.g. zinc plating, nickel plating, anodising, black oxide) are standard. We deliver ready-to-install parts.

Ideally: a technical drawing (2D/3D) including tolerances, material specification, surface requirements, desired quantities and target date. A sketch or an existing sample part is also sufficient for an initial assessment. Our technicians can also create technical drawings for you.
